HEAD OF THE NORTH
October 2021
This past weekend Head of the North, an annual rowing regatta in Traverse City, resumed for Ann Arbor teams after a years’ pause due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Pioneer and Skyline crew teams were present to represent Ann Arbor Public Schools.
“The last time I had been there was my freshman year, two years ago, and it was a really great event that year, And I had a really good time this year too,” said Noah Fulkerson, a CHS junior on the Pioneer crew team.
The two teams battled it out against 5 other schools, including Northville, Saline and East Grand Rapids. Skyline finished in first place with 223 points overall; Pioneer finished in third with 180 points.
PICTURE THIS: BRUNO HOHN
April 2022
Bruno Hohn, a CHS junior, went to Pittsburg, PA to visit Carnegie Mellon University. On his visit, he visited Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shack, where he posed for a photo with Mr. Jelly Belly, the mascot for Jelly Belly, which manufactures jelly beans.
Hohn is considering going to the art school of Carnegie Mellon for either illustration or animation.
“I just found animation and sort of exaggerated movement through pictures a very interesting thing [at a younger age],” said Hohn.
Ever since he was younger, Hohn has been drawing and reading comics. A particular favorite of his currently is “Super Mutant Magic Academy,” but his childhood favorite is “Calvin and Hobbes.”
“I just think [Calvin and Hobbes] is funny consistently. The expressions and everything is good. I like how it changes art style sometimes,” Hohn says.
